ZambiahasbeenelectedthefirstAfricannationtoheadtheInternationalConsumerProtectionandEnforcementNetwork(ICPEN).Itsconsumerwatchdog,theCompetitionandConsumerProtectionCommission(CCPC),waselectedchairoftheICPENfor201819tenureduringtheICPENannualconferencerecentlyheldinGermany,accordingtothestatementreleasedbyZambia鈥檚MinistryofCommerce,TradeandIndustry.

CCPCExecutiveDirectorKelvinSampasaidasthefirstAfricancountrytoleadtheICPEN,ZambiawouldleverageitspositionintheregionalblocstogrowthenetworkandinfluencetheparticipationofotherAfricancountriesintheorganization.

Currently,Egypt,Nigeria,Kenya,Angola,SeychellesandZambiaaretheonlyAfricancountriesinthisglobalnetworkofgovernmentalconsumerprotectionauthoritiesfromover50countries.Zambiahadmaintainedapartnershipstatuswithoutvotingrightsfortwoyearsbeforebecominganofficialmemberin2013.CA
